The Power of Female Energy: What I Learned at a Women’s Retreat

A few weeks ago, I stepped out of the everyday and into a retreat held by my beautiful best friend Sandi—a women’s day of connection, movement, and deep rest. What I thought would be a peaceful day of yoga and chats ended up being something way more powerful.

It began with a slow morning… and then a not-so-slow sprint to my car to grab my yoga mat (cue: me tripping hard and hitting the gravel, just after Sandi had told us to slow down—perfect timing, right?).

Once I dusted myself off, we gathered in a big open shed looking out over the Gold Coast hinterland. The space was beautiful, earthy, peaceful. We started with a matcha ceremony where we shared a bit about ourselves. It felt intimate, warm, safe.

Then came the somatic dancing.

This part cracked me open. Music loud, bodies moving freely, no pressure to “look” a certain way—just feeling the music and letting it move through us. I cried so much. Not from sadness, but release.
Being surrounded by women moving in unison, it was like my nervous system recalibrated. I could feel how strong female energy is when we’re aligned.

No judgment. No comparison. Just connection.

We shared lunch together—beautiful, nourishing food that I helped prepare while Sandi spoke about the four phases of the menstrual cycle and how to support ourselves in each one. (Sandi’s a naturopath and Chinese medicine practitioner—she just gets it.)

After lunch, we took time for ourselves. Some of us sat in the sauna, others journaled, and we ended with acupuncture and the most relaxing yin yoga meditation I’ve ever experienced.

I left that day feeling grounded, clear, and connected.

And just a few days later, Sandi and I went for a birthday skinny dip in a local waterhole, swollen from the recent cyclone rains. It was cold, wild, and deeply nourishing. That raw connection with nature—no distractions, no noise—was everything my body and soul needed.

Sometimes we forget how deeply we need that space.
To slow down.
To be held.
To release.
To be with other women who are walking through the same wild, beautiful chaos of life.

So if you’ve been moving fast lately—juggling work, kids, house, relationships—this is your reminder to pause.
Reach out to your circle.
Make space for stillness.
And if you don’t have that community yet—start building it. Even one person at a time.

Female energy is strong. And when we lean into it together, magic happens.

If this resonated with you and you’re craving more moments of connection, nourishment and nervous system reset — I’ve started sharing simple raw wholefood recipes (with breathwork and meditation content coming soon) over at The Wild Earth Kitchen.
